I stumbled upon Mi Nidito after looking for a good, after work happy hour place that wasn't loud, and packed to the brim with people. Its very cozy (small) but that's what I wanted. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. The manager was so lovely, we had a nice chit chat while she was waiting for the bartender to come. She immediately gave me complimentary chips and salsa, while i decided what flavor margarita i would have (they have 25 flavors to choose from) I chose guava and later passion fruit, these drinks went down way too easily like a slurpee, but had some real kick to them, i was done after two!!!! I ordered a chicken taquito, it was ok...nothing too special, was surpised you only get one taquito! Then at the bartenders recommendation the chicken wings...yeah I know ...wings in a Mexican place???? But believe me these were fantastic, really well seasoned, not greasy with a great smoky chipotle sauce..I was impressed! And being the greedy girl I am I had the flan, this also was realllllllllllllllly good! Not too sweet, very creamy, not too eggy...just perfect! My only complaint, and why I took away one star, with this restaurant is that the prices on food are quite steep compared with other places in the area! The happy hour prices on the 12 oz margarita's are $7, ($1 more for flavored) which is very reasonable. But food menu is bit overpriced, The wings I ordered were $10, and to be honest I don't have a complaint, because these wings were meaty, and they give you 8 of them so that is a good price, but some of the entree platters that i would have liked to try were just way too much!! I still will return for the happy hour margaritas, wings, and the delectable flan though, plus the staff are just awesome!!!!

Food = 4 Stars Prices = 1 Stars Decor = 3 Stars The food here is super tasty and fresh... but who'd ever think that the most expensive restaurant in Hell's Kitchen would be this super casual ma & pa Mexican restaurant!! Yep, go figure! What are they thinking with these prices?!? Every entree is about $5 more than any other Mexican restaurant in the area. Sure this place only has a few tables (and I assume they do a great deal of their business as delivery), but these guys need to get a reality check on prices soon! If they don't, they won't be open much longer. With all that said, all the food we tried was tasty and above average--the guacamole, steak nachos, and pork chimichanga were all spot on. Plus the margaritas were super tasty and strong! Nevertheless, I will not be returning b/c of the super high prices.

After getting the late night munchies with Manvi again, we stumbled into this small joint and had ourselves some very standard, clean tasting, satisfying mexican food. The beans did not taste as if overburdened with a tremendous amount of oil or salt, and natural flavors were allowed to shine through. good grub.

These 3.5 stars would be 5 if they would become a taco spot and serve multiple variations of tacos. If you read my profile you'll see that tacos and salsa are my favorite foods. Their salsa is out of this world but they don't serve a variety of tacos, which is crazy because I feel like they'd be crazy good. It's a very small bar, when you go there you don't feel like you're in NYC. Did I mention the salsa?

I haven't been in Hell's Kitchen since I moved from the UWS to Astoria 10 months ago. I happened to be in HK with a friend from out of town who wanted to tried Mexican food. I have seen so many Mexican places in Hell's Kitchen that it's overwhelming, and being from Mexico City myself, I was always skeptical about their quality. But there I was searching for a place to eat. I probably spent good half an hour going through dozens of menus and hundreds of pictures with no luck, until I finally found something that cought my attention: "carnitas Yucatan" (aka Cochinita Pibil), pork carnitas slowly cooked with a curry type sauce principally made of achiote paste, orange juice, lemon juice and habanero pepper, served at the restaurant/cantina Mi Nidito. We went directly there ordered strawberry and passion fruit freshly (with real fruit) made frozen margaritas with tequila Tres Generaciones, while we looked at the entire menu. PK, one of the most friendly guys I have ever met, owner and executive chef of the restaurant was bar tending and serving food. He suggested the healthy beef quesadillas (with vegetables), and the pork carnitas Yucatan. We didn't wait much to see the quesadillas coming out from the kitchen. They were truly delicious, with the right portion of meet and cooked vegetables. Soon after we got the pork carnitas which were unbeatable. The softness of the meet and quality of the ingredients made me feel back in my hometown. We could not leave without having the home made flan. A delicatessen that should not be missed (I would totally just come back for it). The only thing that would make this place more Mexican would be hand made tortillas and tortilla chips, which shamefully is hard to find at any Mexican restaurant in the US. As a side note, PK had been in the Mexican restaurant industry for 35+ years and he knows as much of Mexican food as my best buddies from Mexico City.

A hidden gem in the Hells Kitchen scene. GREAT food, GREAT margaritas. A definite go-to place for mexican on the 9th Avenue food mecca. Absolutely do not go to another Mexican place on 9th, I've been to them all, they do not pale in comparison. Run by an extremely nice family who really tries to get to know the customers. Dishes taste like home cooked Mexican meals and the service is EXCELLENT. I've been living in the city now for 2 years and frequent this place often to get my Mexican food fix- def worth stopping by, even if you're just looking for a drink. Super friendly staff- they really make you feel right at home. I'll be back often!

Our party of four enjoyed everything including our drinks. Tortilla soup soup is delish. Margaritas are perfect, but the sangria was a tad too sweet. Tacos are sinful. The hostess was friendly. Fresh ingredients, well prepared. A little pricier than we expected for a place that's a little dive-y, but we would definitely go back.

When this restaurant was on 8th Ave we used to go for margaritas all the time. I am so glad to have columns the new location. I had a great mango margarita. As we were chatting about eggplant parmesan, the owner decided to make us the Mexican version, he calls it veracruz. Delicious. I love the food, the drinks and now the owners!

The food here is delicious and not too oily! They make it pretty quickly, but it can be a bit pricey (though the portions are big). I love the Nachos Grande Al Rey (hold the sour cream please). Okay so this is possibly the unhealthiest thing you can order here but it's so so so delicious!! Fresh chips covered in cheese and bean dip and guac. Yum, so good! Speaking of guac, the guac with chips is pretty good, and they give you a lot of it. I also like the shrimp fajitas and paella, both of which have juicy shrimp. Not a huge fan of the quesadillas and their salads are nothing special (really just lettuce, tomatoes, radishes). But for the days when you need something fatty, filling, and delicious, definitely try the nachos.

This place is a little bizarre and very overpriced. I made a reservation with a friend and we showed up not realizing there were only three tables in the entire establishment. We quickly realized this place was more for takeout, but we embraced the situation and ordered some food. The food was alright, but some of the prices were pretty ridiculous. There were burritos on the menu for almost $30, and my friend ordered a burrito that was tiny and didn't look all that great. I will say the guacamole was pretty good, and the server was quick; but I don't think I'd go back.

Great Mexican food. great prices... Lunch specials!!! Take out is really quick and the food is fresh! If your ordering tacos please tell them to put it separate from the platter if your taking out because the taco gets soggy from the beans. Other then that the food is delicious.

I love this place! I used to go when they were located on 8th. The new place on 52nd and 9th is much smaller than the original, but it is very intimate. The food is still great. I had the BEST flan I've ever tasted, and believe me, I'm a foodie. The waitress, who I think was the owner, was very personable. She played with my son and was very patient. The baby broke a glass (embarrassing) and she was still very nice about it. This is my fave Mexican place.

We had a reservation but still had to wait 30 minutes for a table. It then took over 90 minutes for the food to arrive. When the food finally arrived they had got the order wrong and the food was bland at best and largely without any flavour whatsoever. The enchiladas were a large heap of cheese and carbohydrates. The kids fell asleep because the food was so slow but when we complained the manager would only knock 10% off the bill and insisted we had to pay the "compulsory" gratuity because it was written in small print on the menu. The worst dining I have had in New York City and the worst Mexican food I think I have had anywhere. There are a stack of great Mexicans on 9th and 10th avenue in the high 40s and 50s. Don't make the mistake of eating here. Jon

The Tortilla Chicken Vegetable Soup is simply the best soup in midtown or hell's kitchen. Big flavors, chunks of chicken, fresh avocado and an amazing spicy kick!

  • Owen H.

I've eaten here three times and each time it was delicious. The salads, burritos, quesadillas and chimichangas are delicious; certainly the best in the neighborhood. The service is always excellent and the owners are both tremendously accommodating and polite. The only downside is that the food is expensive. But I personally don't mind paying a little extra when I know I'm getting top-quality ingredients. I mean, would YOU trust a quesadilla with frickin KING CRAB meat that was 9.95? I don't think so. Their salsa is fresh, spicy and delicious (though a little heavy on the cilantrof or my tastes) and their meats, particularly the chicken, are quality. but if you prefer grisly grey chikin then yes, as many reviewers below point out, Chipotle is only a few blocks away. They have tons of vegetarian options and a juice bar. And the owners are a very nice couple. I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood and if you're around, you should give them a shot. Disregard the curmudgeons below. People who give a place one star because they didn't like their salad or don't know how to use seamless web shouldn't be allowed to post reviews on yelp.

  • Vicki H.

Expensive. I've ordered from Mi Nidito before, knowing they are pricier than others, but fresh and tasty. I ordered something different this time. My friend and I both ordered the chopped salad. We ordered via seamless web and HAD to order a soda (which I don't drink) or the order was not going to process. Quicker than calling I acquiessed. For $26 (2.25 tip) we received two tins of lettuce of which I could see the bottom of the tin...aka:: not a healthy lettuce serving; a few pieces of scattered chicken, a scant of cheese, beets (on a Mexican salad?) and radishes. OH yes, and a few tomatoes. It was disappointing. Very. Even if the sparse salad was amazing I could see spending that kind of dough on a romaine leafed salad, but it wasn't. I've had bigger appetizers. It was pricey, bland and completely worth passing up. Score another point for Chipotle.

I was looking over my reviews, because I'm vain like that. Its amazing how memorable this place was. Still the 1 star, but it's now comically bad. See the last photo supplied here? with the Mexican hats on top of the black cabinet. What's that space behind there, you ask? Oh, that's not where Juan puts the boxes of extra batteries and various knick-knacks. That's the way to the bathroom.

If you work near times square or live nearby and have this urge to get shitty in the middle of the day on fruity drinks then this is the place to do it. Margaritas are very well balanced and this place could probably get better fanfare if they had a smaller food menu. The food is anywhere from eh to good. The enchiladas are great, tacos pretty damn good and their guac is spot on.

  • Jenny H.

I would not recommend here at all. We were looking for a quick bite & was assured that it would be fast. We ordered 3 taco salads. Not only did it take 20 min, the salad was bland... It was made with iceberg lettuce, a triangle of tomato, & few sliced radishes. The grilled chicken was with little flavor. The added dressing didn't add much to the salad. On top of that, they automatically added 18% gratuity. Ripoff. Be warned!

This place really sucks. This place sucks so bad that the gf and I were really mad we didn't go into the Chipotle that happens to be RIGHT NEXT DOOR! After playing some basketball and with a massive appetite the gf and I decided to get some food. Mi Nidito looked like a decent place so we decided to go try it out. Place sucked from the get. We were greeted even before we opened the door to the place. Before we even sat down the waiter was offering salsa and guac. Everything happen so fast that we said yes not knowing we just purchased over priced packaged guac. GF ordered Tacos with rice and beans with a side salad. I ordered a fajita. This food was so bad that they make our Mexican nights at home look and taste as if we were Mexican when we are not. Gf ordered a pork chunk taco, they brought beef. All the ingredients were ingredient. Like super market brand cheese, Dole bagged lettuce, canned beans etc. Didn't even look appetizing. My fajita looked presentable but was not tasty. The chicken was cut so small that it had no taste. The dish was over powered by the blend of peppers and onions that it should have been a Vegetarian dish. They also put Mushrooms to front like it was meat. This was the first time I ever had a fajita with Mushrooms. The rice had hard chunks in it as well. I left most of my dish. The best thing of that meal....the ginger ale which would have been really hard for them to mess that up. Before I finish this review let me touch base on the prices. The whole menu is priced starting at $14 bucks. A burrito cost $18 bucks. My fajita if I'm not mistaken was $21. Way to expensive for a Mexican restaurants where ingredients are cheap. The bill was $80, and they tip themselves. Chipotle would have been maybe $22 and delicious. Because I was not feeling to good I did ot Yelp* this place but trust that I learned my lesson. Do yourself the favor and don't get yourself dragged in by the Margarita advertisements, this place is really not worth it.

Stopped in tonight for a snack before JC Superstar around the corner at the Neil Simon Theater. I had only about 45 minutes to chow down. They started me off with the traditional crispy chips and fresh salsa. The app Nachos with ground beef was very filling, and tasted authentic with the side of guacamole, sour cream and hot salsa. Loved it. The homemade sangria washed it down really nicely. Waitress was not overly attentive, but pleasant enough. The owner P K is a charm. I love the non-touristy atmosphere here. Mi Nidito tastes fresh, washes down smooth and is just plain Mexicano good. And I was in my seat well before curtain. Not bad for about $20. GO THERE!!!

THIRTEEN DOLLARS AND CHANGE?? FOR A FUCKING LAME ASS MARGARITA? REALLY? REALLY? I'm spending $13, I better get a male servant wearing a g-string serving me that margarita. And it wasn't even ALL THAT. Mediocre, at best. A fucking margarita??? Seriously? Bite me.

    (2)
  • Chris J.

This is an overpriced tourist trap that are waiting to nickel and dime you. They charged me $2.00 for some cilantro on the side, $2.50 for jalapeños, and $2.50 for some pico de gallo. The service was horrible, like they were doing you a favor by waiting on you. Then of course they tack on 18% grat. I paid $39.00 for some dry chicken plate and a margarita. Along with the trance music they play, gaudy decor and bland food, I was ashamed that I actually ate at this breeding pool of absolute garbage.

  • Jessica S.

Everything was fresh and delicious. Owners were super helpful, and happily accommodated any special requests we had (gluten-free, no sugar). Guacamole and enchilada lunch special were freshly-made and quickly disappeared. The best Mexican food we've had for a long time!

    (5)
  • Kai T.

This place is painfully mediocre. The best thing was the tortilla chips they start you off with then it was just totally downhill from there. The service was lacking. Out waiter didn't come to check on us. There are no words to describe the lackluster food this place serves. It wasn't bad. But just lkjdfljs. Definitely would not go back. Oh! And I was splitting the check with someone and they charged my card the full amount of the bill. (even though the receipt I signed wasn't for the full amount) When I called they were very dismissive and didn't address the problem. Telling me it would fix itself. It's been two days, and I'm still waiting for that fix.

People who claim NYC can't do Mexican well have probably eaten at a place like Mi Nidito during their time here. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it, the food here is terrible. Their attempts at haute gourmet Mexican fare is not only an insult to Mexican cuisine but an assault on my palate. They claim their food contains no "MSG, lard or animal fat" and apparently no flavor either. Paying $$$ for mediocre food is all you're going to get here. This side of Manhattan is not known for many Mexican eateries, let alone good ones. I suppose desperation, cautious optimism, and something called Seamless Web played a role in my feeble attempts to capitalize on something that just wasn't there. The Pollo A La Mexicana ($19) was among the worst I've ever tasted, the Steak Tacos Al Carbon ($23) was completely lackluster, and your mileage will vary on any of the Chimichanga combinations ($19-24). The service was terribly slow each time and run of the mill decor isn't indicative of the price-gauging going on here. I am not sure if this place will have the legs to survive another year of our economic downturn, but regardless of how well I'm doing, I'll be sure to steer clear of El Nidito.

Great nachos and enchiladas. The owner PK is very nice. The place is kind of grimmy and last time there was a piece of hair in my nachos. The drinks taste like ass, as I suspect they use bootleg quality alcohol.

I didn't want to eat here in the first place on curb appeal alone, but my exuse, "they probably use lard and chicken stock in everything" backfired and we walked inside. No one greeted us, so we sat ourselves. The salsa that came with our little basket of chips was weak and watery. I ordered a pinto bean burrito with black beans and rice on the side. When it came out I was very disappointed to see a third of the plato was taken up with wilted greens. The burrito was tiny, and the side of black beans was tinier. We asked for hot salsa on the side and were given a bottle of habanero sauce, which tells me that they don't make anything fresh. The meal was bland and I ate about half. Annoyed that we spent so much money on a both a small and bad dinner, I stopped by my hotel's gift shop for snacks so I could at least eat something passable. I felt nauseous most of the next day. Eek!. You can get twice the food for half the price next door at Chipotle.

This isn't just the best Mexican food in Hell's Kitchen - this is one of New York City's finest! They lured me in almost 16 years ago and I can only hope they'll be around for many, many years to come!

My friends and I randomly stumbled upon this place one night. We had a few margaritas and enjoyed ourselves. By the end of the night, the owners had shut down the place for us, blasted music, and we turned it into a club haha. There was a good 15 of us plus the bartender and manager having a great time. They treated us with such great attention. I, unfortunately, have not had the chance to go back yet -- but a lot of my friends have been back there multiple times usually to pregame. LOVE THIS PLACE!

  • Amy S.

Went here after visiting the MOMA when a severe mexican craving hit me. Unfortunately, I wished I had gone to chipotle, next door.... The fact that there were only 2 tables seated at 7:30 on a Friday should have been a clue. The atmosphere is charming and service started off fine. My negro modelo was satisfactory and the complimentary chips and salsa were a delight. Unfortunately we should have left after this but proceeded to order dinner: chiles rellenos and a combo dish with a tostada & enchillada. Both were served with rice and beans. Both were beautifully generous portions and LOOKED like they should taste delicious but were utterly flavorless and disappointing. I also tried to get the waiter's attention for about 15 minutes in order to request necessary hot sauce, at which point I was almost full. I hate wasting food but the leftovers were not worth taking home. Mi Nidito would probably be safe for some drinks and chips/salsa/guac but I definitely do not recommend the food.

I effing hate this place. But mostly for an irrational reason: the menu solicitors that LITERALLY man the immediate sidewalk outside during opening hours. I've lived here on 8th Avenue for 2+ years now and I DON'T want a menu-- particularly not when I'm hauling ass up the avenue with 5+ Food Emporium bags. (Yes they will flash menus in your face no matter what the inappropriate circumstance, be it unavailable arms... dirty looks being thrown, etc.) But more realistically, I've ordered here once (delivery) on a whim. Major mistake. One would naively hope that a $20 burrito would be somewhat amazing-- sadly not the case. I guess it was my own fault for ordering the "California burrito" with its random ass assortment of vegetables. Peas, for example. If you like peas in your burrito then you really don't deserve to be eating Mexican food in the first place. Top off this information with the fact that there is a completely reliable Chipotle right next door and, well, Mi Nidito may as well not even exist. I'll go ahead and give an extra star in the hopes that the margaritas are at least decent. Fair?

  • Heather S.

This review is solely for the margaritas, seeing as how we only stopped in for the happy hour special (buy one 12oz Margarita at full price get the second for half price). Luis was a great bartender. He recommended some great flavors and I thoroughly enjoyed the Long Island Iced Tea Margarita. I'll be sure to stop by for Happy Hour next time I find myself in midtown between 6 and 8pm. :)

I've been here several times now both with a small group of friends, as well as a large group. Personally I find it a much better option than the overpriced commercial options of nearby Times Square. Margaritas are nice and strong, and the guac is fresh and tasty. My big complaint is they're a little stingy on chips - they have signs on all the tables saying the price of tortillas has risen, so only your first round of chips is on the house (a second basket is included if you order guac or queso). However, the baskets they bring the chips out in are quite small, so you'll definitely be found wanting after the first basket is gone. Food has always been good - I usually opt for a combo platter with tacos and enchiladas (the sauce on the enchiladas is particularly yummy), and various companions have enjoyed fajitas and taco salads as well.

  • Jonathan Z.

Yummy yummy yummy. The only knock on Mi Nidito is it's location, otherwise this 'dive mexican' joint has some of the freshest tasting foods and probably the best margarita I've ever had. Try the whole wheat quesadilla when you're there! You can thank me later.

Mi Nidito is located right next to a huge Chipotle so if you wandered into the area looking for food you might get sucked into Chipotle. However, if you're looking for good authentic Mexican food goto Mi Nidito. They are incredibly vegetarian friendly and very accommodating to your diet. My girlfriend and I got a big plate of vegetarian nachos that just had so much flavor. The best part of the meal was their salsa. I kept asking for more and they kept bringing it. The service was great as well. They accidentally brought out refried beans instead of black beans and quickly fixed it without any fuss. The ambiance may need a bit of work but if you want good quality food look no further.

  • David J.

Wow, a lot of controversy about Mi Nidito. I went here last night with my 16-year-old daughter, and we liked it. The homemade chips and salsa they bring to the table were really tasty. Of course, the waitress tried to sell us the guacamole, since it costs about $1 to make, and they can charge over $10 for it. I'm glad we said no, because our order of nachos came with guacamole anyway. She got enchiladas, I got chiles rellenos, and we thought everything was just fine. Ten bucks for a frozen margarita was little high, since you can buy a whole bottle of tequila for $20, but that's life in the big city. We would gladly go back.

Came to Mi Nidito for a girls night a few months ago to have a few happy hour Margarita's before going on to another locale for dinner. We sat at the bar for the few hours that we were there, and spent some time talking to Luis the bartender. H recommended some really great drinks and made me an extremely heavy on the alcohol Sangria-Margarita. It was really delicious but wow, really strong! You can definitely get VERY pleasantly tipsy at Mi Nidito for a good price - well keep it in mind for sure!

My company did an order from here today. I saw the negative yelp reviews but I also saw some positive ones so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the "Sizzling Chicken Fajitas." The chicken is the dry, salty, discolored variety you expect from a second-rate chinese restaurant. The beans were something I could have made at home out of a can from CostCo and the rice was also grocery store variety. I took a few bites, was disgusted and threw it out and ordered Dos Caminos. Although Dos Caminos was delicious I still had to deal with the lingering smell of dry chicken from the garbage for the next 3 hours.

So so food. The guacamole and the black bean soup were both awesome. The chili relleno, not so much. The restaurant was pretty empty on a Tuesday night and service was very attentive. I'd come back here if staying in the neighborhood but definitely would not go out of my way for this one.

Worst restaurant I have EVER been to. The staff should all be fired including the no responsive "manager" who could care less about the customers. My girlfriends and I were so excited about eating guacamole and margaritas. First the "large" guac was the size of a side dish for 15 dollars then the margariatas tasted like Tequila from a gas station. The staff could care less. They were so rude and didn't care what we thought. I guess that is why they had one other table on a Thursday night in midtown manhattan. Please save yourself a bad time and go to Chipotle, you will be much happier and satisfied!!!

Ughh this place is far from mexican cuisine -- their food is horrible. We got food from there once and we all ended up getting sick. The veggie quesadilla had cabbage, carrots and brocolli in it -- found that extremely odd. Their service is terrible and it does really suck.

If you're craving Mexican food, go somewhere else. Prepare to wait a long time for your food, and then to be nickel and dimed. A very small basket of chips and salsa is served complimentary, and then there is a charge for any more. We almost left because food was taking so long. Our water server refilled us several times while we waited and asked how we were enjoying our food. We still hadn't gotten our food! We asked for some more sour cream and found $2 charge on bill for it. Won't be returning.

New York prices, decent food but tight tables and so-so interior. Servers were very courteous and nice. They claim to have to worlds best margaritas and do boast a broad choice. I believe the best test for 'ritas are by tasting the classic. This was good, certainly not the best I have had.

I've been coming to Mi Nidito for at least ten years--possibly 15, if they've been opened that long. 1) The owner is incredibly friendly, and his daughter-waitresses are awesome--cheery, accurate, helpful. They all ALWAYS have a smile. 2) Their margaritas are GREAT. I usually get the frozen pina colada margarita with salt, but everything from plain on the rocks to the wild flavors are all really good. 3) Their salsa and chips are fantastic. Fresh, tasty, delicious. 4) If I lived in this neighborhood, I would eat here all the time. Fresh food, incredibly vegetarian-friendly, spacious ladies room (men's room is admittedly small and creepy), great service, and fun atmosphere. No, the food is not cheap--in terms of price or ingredients--but FAIRLY priced for the quality you are getting! I love Mi Nidito. You should go.

Just ok. The food was fine, but nothing outstanding. I was really hungry the night I went, so it tasted good, but it was nothing I would go back for. Drinks were expensive. They advertise a 60 oz margarita, but I don't know how many people are forking out 45 dollars for it. Their margaritas were good, but not that strong. Service was really attentive, but I was there with a birthday party that's bill came to over 400 dollars so I would be attentive to. Overall this is just another tourist trap in times square. Stay away.

Yet another tourist trap. They claim to have mexican food - but it was pretty close to taco bell. Also, they say that they have a ton of margarita varieties, but none were that impressive. There's a reason why people stand outside all the time trying to usher people in - it's because no one wants to eat there. It was super empty...

Reading the info on Yelp and other restaurant review sites, one would suppose that Mi Nidito is open late, especially given the "good for late night" designation. Accordingly, we walked 15 blocks for the white cheese dip, of which I had heard tale. Because this city doesn't know what cheese dip is (white cheese dip, aka queso), I'm sure it would have fallen short had we been allowed to partake. We approach the door and are told by Guy#1 to come on in. Guy #2 at the door decided they were closed ("We close at 1am" I was told) even though a couple walked in directly in front of us. The time was 1:05 to be exact. I'm sure the food would have tasted like the subway, since that the entryway smelled of bum, or maybe that was the smell of Guy #2? In any event, I'm glad we missed it. In short, comeme, Mi Nidito.

Just back from this little gem! Quiet. Small. Bursting with flavor! My husband had the chili rellenos and said they were excellent, and no tooth picks! I had the veggie burrito and mixed all the veggies with the beans, etc. really tasty. Excellent margaritas as well

I haven't been in about 5 years, but this was one of my favorite places to get some margaritas and chips/salsa with my friends. Cute little spot.

I'm not sure what the pictures are of...perhaps this place relocated but the location I went to was right next to the gay bar FLAMING SADDLES in Hell's Kitchen. I will admit that the service was fantastic. The owner and his family are very kind and attentive. They even allowed my friend and I to make substitutions to our meal which many places these days try to discourage you from doing. We both had fajitas. I had steak, veggies, and chicken. My friend had shrimp, veggies, and chicken. A fajita trio is also pretty uncommon. The food itself was not the best Mexican in the area unfortunately. Most of the time when I go to a little hole in the wall place, especially for Mexican food, the prices are a lot cheaper. $24.95 for fajitas is pretty standard at a regular place where the plates are larger but I didn't feel like I was getting top quality food for my dollar. It was certainly not bad food...just not the best. Had I paid $10 or $15 for my meal, I would have been completely satisfied with the experience but at a place where they handed us take-out menus when we sat down, nothing should cost over $20.

I have never ate in this place but I ordered from here many times and this is my favorite mexican restaurant so far. They use very fresh and good ingredients and the food arrives hot and well presented. They also put lots of sauces and extra salads. It does cost just a little more than other mexican restaurants, but the food is really worth it. It's not oily or fat, guacamole is fresh, they use whole grains tortilla and wraps and they deliver fast. I saw that many people have a bad experience when going there, but as to order, I would highly recommend this place.

First - and last - time ordering takeout from this place. I ordered the Shrimp Enchilada lunch special and the Rice Pudding. Both were total disappointments. The lunch special was soggy and flavorless. The extremely over-priced Rice Pudding was actually more like rice soup with overcooked chopped rice. Awful.

barf. This is not Mexican. I ordered Enchiladas and jalapeno poppers. The poppers were fine (they tasted like the fast food pizza place ones). On the other hand, the enchilada was terrible. I don't even think I would call it an enchilada. It was just a mush of corn maize and cheese, dry chicken and roasted vegetables. That is NOT and enchilada. Check please.

I would've given it a 5 star but the techno music was too much. Food was delicious, didn't think we'd find good mexican food north of the Red River but we did and in Manhatten! Margarita's rock all kinds of flavors...it looked like a flavor chart for sno cones. I had a spinach and cheese burrito with beans and rice, beans were home made, and according to the sign not made with MSG or Lard so it was a surprise that everything was so good! It was a bit cramped getting bumped by staff didn't make for a great experience either...if you don't have space for 5 then don't put us in the middle of the restaurant. But again food was great and service was great.

NOTE: I have only ever eaten one thing here, and it was delivered, but it is the one thing I will gladly eat once a week. The menu seems waaaaay overpriced, I get that it can be off-putting, but do yourself a favor and try PKs Black Bean Soup. It comes with a little sour cream, guacomole and a wedge of lime. When I open up the bag, it is all assembled to look like a little smiling face (lime wedge mouth, sour cream and guac eyess...best BF in the world...). It's spicy and fresh and has plenty cilantro and pico de gayo. It also comes with chips, which I try very hard not to eat, but fail over and over. I doubt I will go there for just drinks, but it's a great wintertime lunch/dinner. yumzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Was the food good? Sure. Were the Margaritas really good? Definitely! But was it worse the price? No! If this "joint" would bring down their prices a notch, only then would this place MAYBE deserve an extra star. Mi Nidito definitely price gouges - My personal tab came to $65 (w/o tip), which was for a vegetarian burrito, a 28oz marg., and a medium (which was really small) guac app (price split between 3 people)! I've never dropped so much at, what is essentially, a "local hole-in-the-wall" Mexican restaurant. I understand that I have no one to blame by but myself - I guess we didn't really know what we were getting into until we were already seated - but STILL!! Give me a break! This restaurant is simply not of the $$$ caliber. We walked in right before the disco lights came on and the late 90s dance music nearly blew out the speakers. It was so over-the-top that it was actually pretty funny at times (esp. when one is half way into their marg). Oh, and maybe most importantly - the restroom REEKED of urine. It was so stale and disgusting that it was clear the pungent odor was not "fresh", and no one has been cleaning it for weeks. If only one of us had needed to use it before ordering, I would have demanded we walk out. Unfortunately, I was the first who needed to use it, and that was already after we had finished eating. I won't comment on the cleanliness of the kitchen, because I didn't see it, but if the smell of the bathroom brings to mind the 53rd and Lex subway passageway in the dead of 95-degree-summer-weather, then one has to question their rate of food poisoning.

I grant three stars based solely on the quality of their frozen margarita. I haven't tried the food (though I was given free chips and salsa with my margarita, eee!), but reading the rest of reviews here makes me think the food is lacking. I will say the salsa is good. The purpose of this review however is to serve as a marker in cyberspace so that I will always remember, when stranded just west of times square, that there is a random little spot with simply divine frozen margaritas. Im not sure why they taste so much better than ordinary ones, but I can say they are not too tart, not too sweet, they taste of natural flavors, and they are strong as hell. Perfect.

I was hesitant to check out Mi Nidito because of all the bad reviews. But honestly, this place was wonderful- ya'll are on crack! We went on Halloween, which of course was a risk, but it was perfect. We ordered the steak quesadilla, the cheese dip and the buddin and the food was great! I don't understand the bad reviews at all! I'm from LA, so I'm a pretty good judge of Mexican food. And honestly, this place is exactly as I expected it to be! Dirty Mexican with AMAZING margaritas- what could be better? Plus, the owner PK (I think that's his name) checked on us throughout the evening and even gave us a complimentary flan which again was delicious. I'm so glad this place is right next door to me. I'll definitely be returning!

Initially i was going to walk over to 10th for some Indian ,but the rains came ,and it was too much of a hike ..so bizarrely I went to MN because I read somewhere that the Midtown Lunch guys thought this place served good quality Mexican ,not so my friends I should have read the Yelp review ,but it is only a three minute walk from my building in the rain.. I had a poblano relleno lunch special which I thought would be a nicely grilled chile with a stuffing of tasty shredded pork , it was a small pile ,around eight or nine pieces, of pork covered with a single thin strip of chile and then covered in a cheesy red-sauce Mexican gloop. ..and it is not even that reasonably priced ..$10.95 for my lunch special. Also ..zero atmosphere, everyone looked like they wanted to be somewhere else, such as a proper Mexican restaurant..and of course Chipotle is next door..my bad ....fail!!

I went there with a few friends for a relaxing evening. It was quite packed when we got there but we were seated quite quickly. The food was quite good for the price (big portions!) but the taste was quite lacking. I ordered something that came with hot warning but it turned out to be quite bland. Service was on the slow side. I would come again only if I wanted an average night with time to kill.

This place is TERRIBLE. It was actually the first place i ordered from on seamless on my quest for good mexican food I placed 2 orders of Dinner Rib-Eye Steak Fajita Why would i do such a thing on my FIRST order without knowing how it was... The steak was delivered extremely well done. It was also not sliced up which i can understand i could slice it up myself. But then i realized the steak was surrounded by fat and almost 25-40% of the meat was fat. This was extremely disappointing. The onions were drenched in oil but not even fully cooked. Some were still pretty raw.... It doesn't take that long to cook onions especially in that much oil.... The tortilla surprise surprise were not home made either. These were also store bought. The quest for decent mexican food in NYC still continues....

Quite possibly the worst Mexican food I've had in in my life. Not only was the food abyssmal, the service was atrocious, the manager rude and the drinks overpriced, we ended up feeling like prisoners when it took another 20 minutes just to pay the bill. This is restaurant is doomed to go out of business for their failures. I'll openly tell anyone to find another place for a meal than eat at this dump.

Eek is right. While they do boast 25 different syrup flavors to put in your margaritas, the service here is abysmal. We went on Wednesday and waited for about an hour for a table...no big deal methinks until I realize that the bartender also did not plan on offerings us drinks for the entire duration of the wait. So then we sit down and put in a drink order (a couple is seated close to our party of four and they put in their drink and food orders). We had some guacamole with chips and wait for our drinks and wait and wait, then someone notices the couple behind us has not only been served their drinks, but that they've finished their meals! We ask a manager what is up with our drinks and put in a food order, she says she'll take care of it. We continue to wait and then finally get our drinks right as half of out party gets their meals (the other two had to wait an additional 10 minutes for their food). Food was so-so. When we got our check we talked to the manager about our drinks and explained how long the wait was and he says, "you waited about 30 minutes for drink, if it was 45 minutes then I would take them off the bill, but not for 30 minutes." A very bad experience, will never come back. Oh and they had our entire credit card number on the bill, rather than just the last four numbers.

Okay, it IS a dive bar restaurant, BUT the Food. Is. Good! We wandered in by accident the first go round (just went back), and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The decor sux, the staff is insolent, and although not grimy, the space is far from pristine, BUT. . . The food is actually good and fresh, and the Skinny Margaritas are to die for (get the Patron-based option to be safe -- I think their house brand probably would leave you wishing you'd splurged). They're not on the menu -- you have to ask. If I lived nearby, I'd have takeout delivered from them once a week. They're stingy with the beef so if you like LOTS with your meal, ask for extra. HEAD'S UP FOR THE BILL: They add the 18% gratuity automatically as "autogratis" at the bottom of the first check you get.. (Tourists?) So cross out the line for tips on your credit card slip, because it's already been added. The staff won't tell you but now you know!!!

Went here yesterday for a tequila lunch on a raining Friday with my team at work. I had walked by this place so many times and had never noticed it-if I was going to get my guac fix, I usually bee line the Chipotle next door. The music is cheeeesy. The decor is cheeeesier. But, the food and margs really hit the spot. Coming from SoCal, I am rather particular about my Mexican, and there tends to be a lot of crap in NYC. Ordered the 'healthy' chicken burrito. The wheat tortilla was too yummy to be healthy, and the black beans and guac were great. The pinto beans that came alongside weren't great. They could have been more generous with the shredded chicken, but it really was good. Chips and salsa very good, and the pitcher of house margs was really delicious. I live in the area and will totally go here when I want my Mexican fix.

This place is truly horrible. Mi Nidito was basically the only place open during hurricane Irene, and I honestly wish it wasn't. From the second my girlfriend and I walked in, the service was absolutely awful. They were completely out of chicken, and I was forced to pay a dollar extra for a steak quesidilla. The staff was non responsive and it took forever to get their attention, I ordered a diet coke with my meal, and i had to repeatedly ask for it before I got it. The salsa that came with the dip was way too spicy and watery...almost inedible, and the steak in my quesidilla was very chewy and tasteless. The sour cream that came with the quesidilla meal was very thick and tasted extremely processed and stale - not fresh whatsoever. There was only a salt shaker on the table, no pepper or even hot sauce for the yellow rice. The meals were so hard to swallow down because of how gross everything tasted. By the time we decided to leave, no one was around to get our check. My girlfriend had to get up and ask for the check. We repeatedly tried to make eye contact and speak to our servers (there were three diffferent people) and we were ignored each time. We left no tip because we were so infuriated with the service and food - we will NOT go back again. They are expensive and the food quality is horrible, just go to Chipotle next door. Seriously. Or Lime Jungle on 9th ave and 53rd street (there is also one on the corner of 50th and 9th but the service at the 53rd st location is much better in terms of service.)

Came here last night one a whim. I ordered the steak ranchero and mistakenly thought that for $22 it would be at least decent. The "steak" was just a couple pieces of chopped up fajita meat on top of vegetables and most of it was chewy and inedible. I definitely wouldn't recommend. You can get better and cheaper Mexican food just about anywhere else in Manhattan.

I'm a sucker for Mexican food. If it's half-way decent, I'll gobble it up. It's rice, beans, hot stuff, meat, cheese, some greens . . . it's all the stuff I love. We went to Mi Nidito to bid farewell to a Temp at the office. We don't normally take Temps out for good-bye lunches, but this one was tiny-bit special - won the heart of Boss, added a very needed female presence in our small office, etc - so a quiet exception was made (two full-time workers were out of town at the time). We had to wait a bit to get seated, which was a surprise, only because I just wasn't expecting it. But at 1:30pm on a weekday, it was completely packed, and I took that as a good sign. The decor was completely not what I'd expected based on the pictures on their website - it's really way more run-down and casual than they make it seem on the web - and yes, the music was LOUD. We sat in the middle of the restaurant at a small square table, the four of us rubbing knees, and it was hard just trying to read the menu and not knock off the water glasses and chips and salsa and decorations and what not on the tiny table. We also had to kind of move our shoulders and heads out of the way whenever a waitress passed by with a huge plate of food. Talk about cramped. I got a Steak Chimichanga and it was delicious. I'd probably venture and say that it wasn't authentic, but hell, sometimes delicious = delicious. Also, mofo, it's deep-fried, so wtf do you expect, right? Okay, but I do have to admit, it's not anywhere close to being a really great restaurant, so I'm being reserved about the Stars. Also, I feel like the prices are high - but you do get a ton of food - for a restaurant of its quality, so that's another knock on the rating. I ate my entire plate and I don't think I felt the need to have dinner that night.

I stumbled in here with a friend one night. After finding out blockheads closed at 11 pm, we kinda ran into this place. The sign on the window said killer margaritas and they were definetely great margaritas! I dreamt about their margaritas for about a month now :( Cant wait to go back even though they are pricey. A 16 oz runs about 16$ I believe. The food is not bad. I just had a quesadilla with chicken and cheese. I am a big guacamole fan and there's definetely wasnt the best compared to Chipotle. The music was great but a little loud for a date. And there was some kind of argument between a guest and employee but other than that it was cool. Maybe they should turn it into a lounge afterhours. Cant wait to have a margarita again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a local here in NYC and I wanted to try out a different restaurant. OMG I would never come back. First of all I know alcohol is expensive but not for a pitcher of margarita $54. Then they charged us $4 for 2 glasses of tap water with that being in mind they calculate the tip in the bill for you. The maitre'd had some nerve to ask when I gave her my credit card do you want change back. Suckers only go in there.

Before i get to anything else: italian dressing on the 'salad' next to my enchiladas? C'mon people... the dressing seeped into my enchiladas and the combination tasted... not good. So anyway, i went here around 2pm, totally clear of any lunch or dinner rush, and the seating was about the only thing that was prompt. Oh, the tiny basket of chips and the salsa showed up pretty quickly also. Water took a while. The waitress coming by to order took a while. My dining companion's beer took a while, and the food took a while after that. Then after we finished eating, it was a really long while before we could flag the waitress down for the check (while we were eating, a man at another table actually got up, walked back into the kitchen area, and asked if he could get his check after he'd waited quite a while). So, the service was really, really slow. The food did not make up for it. My enchiladas suizas were fairly bland and utterly unremarkable (except the parts soaked with italian dressing, those were kinda nasty). If i'd paid $5, i wouldn't complain (much). Sadly, even at lunch rates, these enchiladas that can only aspire to mediocrity cost $12.99. My dining companion was no more enamored of his food than i was of mine, and he got something completely different. I'm glad i finally tried this place, as it's quite near where i live, but i won't return (well, maybe for the margaritas, i hear they're strong).

Fun, easy Mexican fare. The place could use some extra space and a little less volume on the latin music, but overall a great choice for midweek bar or dinner. The cons: well, the place is LEEEETLE...and it sucks if you're seated by the door, because they do a lot of takeout/delivery. There's a solution: get here early (6ish), score a table in the back and settle in for some yum! The pros: well-blended house margaritas and solid food. I sampled the excellent steak fajitas and was rewarded with thick slices of meat topped off by lots of onions on a steaming fajita grill. My husband's tacos al carbon were gone before I even got a bite, so I'm assuming they were darn tasty! My friend's steak chimichanga was 2 pounds if it was an ounce; she loved it but couldn't get down more than half before calling it quits. We also got comped a round of tequila shots before the night was over. Score! The owner also checks on the tables regularly, which is a great touch. Top your night off with some sopapillas (sweetened fried dough) with mango ice cream and honey. Good times.

Somebody, please turn back the clock! What have I just eaten? I ordered the grilled steak fajita and received a measly plate of heaven-knows-what. There was barely any meat and everything else was so bland. The most painful part of this very regrettable experience: the exorbitant price!

This was literally the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted. It's run by an Indian couple and perhaps they should stick to grilled cheese. We should have bought 40s and gone to Chipotle next door.

As a transplant from Los Angeles, I found this to be a nice Mexican meal. The meats in the Enchiladas and Burritos are tasty and have flavor. The chips are warm and fresh and the salsa on the side is a bit mild but has flavor. Service is slightly slow. But good for the price and neighborhood.

I do not even want to give this one star. I was beyond outraged with this place the other evening. I was trying to order delivery and decided to call them since they are around the corner. It seemed a little pricey but I called anyways. They wanted to charge me 19.95 for a chicken faijta and 4.95 to add a couple extra sauteed onions. Then I asked what it came with and if I wanted to have cheese and salsa to put in my fajita (which most places just give you) then each item would be additional. Who charges 5 dollars for a couple pieces of onion and then additional for a side of shredded cheese etc. You get the point. I cancelled my order and said to forget it. she didn't seem to mind and I got the impression didn't care. For a restaurant that is constantly putting menus in my door and handing them out on the street maybe they should concentrate on not using so much paper and put it into how they present their product to their guests.

Mediocre is right! On a plus side, they did deliver my food within 35 minutes of placing my order. I ordered the spicy chicken and vegetable enchiladas. $17.95 Three large enchiladas came with chips, rice, salad, and beans. The salsa that came with the dish was fairly spicy, but it was more of a sauce rather than fresh ingredients. The sour cream, standard fare. It's a ton of food. The peppers in the dish definitely brought a lot of heat, and there's a ton of cheese - great for a hangover. They claim to not use any MSG, animal fat, or lard. So you get this feeling that the food might be on the healthy side. Wrong. They douse the enchiladas in about 1 gallon of oil. My problem is that there was a lack of fresh ingredients in the dish. I mean, the salsa was can variety, the re-fried beans were almost of the taco bell kind - slightly lumpy paste. If it were not for the peppers, I would have been bored with the dish. I might go here again and try another dish, maybe something unique to it. But if it's as mediocre as this one, I'm out!

So many negative reviews that I almost didn't go, but glad I did. My meal was great! No runny beans or runny guac. Everything was well-seasoned & of a good, hearty consistency. Mole poblano sauce was especially tasty. They don't use lard. Friendly staff, cozy space, excellent prices. Even late at night, they don't make you feel rushed. Tons of vegetarian choices. It's not highbrow, but it is authentic. Go, and decide for yourself!

the food is great. drinks are great. however the waitress decided to auto-grat my boyfriend and i on a wednesday night. i have visited "Mi Nidito" on many occasions , with the same waitress and this has never happened. Since i am a waitress myself , i called her out on it and she claimed gratuity is added to the bill at all times. 20%? oh please, i noticed on the bill she wrote that there was 6 guests on our table. this place would have received a decent rating if their waitstaff wasn't a crook.

surprised about all the bad reviews. I went here for lunch today and got the seafood enchilada for $10.50. my colleague got a mushroom quesadilla for $9. the lunch specials come with a soda. I thought it was pretty good. dinner entrees are kinda pricey though, i saw some seafood dishes going for like $25. seriously?

Ate here for New Years Eve 2006. It was an awesome night. As we trudged through mid-town trying to get to a different location we found out that we needed to have proof that we're supposed to be going where we said we wanted to go. Cops were everywhere and I was in no mood for beat down so we walked down 8th Avenue and came upon this Mexican paradise. I was so happy when were able to just walk right in and have a seat. There were no raised prices just some good music and lots of folks at the bar. I had a shrimp dish that was to die for. Fresh and scrumptous. My husband ordered something don't remember what but he inhaled his meal so suffice to say he was pleased. I have always been meaning to go back but there are so many new places popping up in Brooklyn that it makes it simpler to stay close to home. Oh and the margarita had me singing all night off key and happy to be alive in the greatest city in the world. It was a great surprise on what could be a stressfull and expensive evening. I still look forward to going back.

Twenty-five flavors of margaritas, nine different tequilas, thousands of combinations and two new converts (me and my friend Randy). The margs were incredibly tasty and super strong. Even us seasoned drinkers were tipsy after one large rita! And the succulent pork taco was the best Mexican item I've had in ages. Plus, when we walked in, they were blaring the Pussycat Dolls. I'll be returning.

The margaritas here are so good they outweigh all the cons I'm about to present, so keep that in mind. Go for the 60oz big mama that they slap in the middle of the table. You're gonna want as much margarita as you can handle. The food is pretty good too. But the service is mediocre at best. And they cram faaaar too many tables into a tiny space. If you time it right when it isn't busy, you can totally have a nice dining experience with homestyle cuisine and great drinks. But if you head there on weekends, expect to feel like sardines in a can.

Very slow and unattentive service. The food is awful, and your body will confirm this the next day. Outrageous prices. Never again.

The food is good. I've been three times. But what I go for are the margaritas. 28oz of yummyness. Yes, it cost $21 and that's no small price. But I loved it and have consumed more than 1... not more than 1 per visit, but one per visit for sure! I recommend it.

Had the taco lunch special today. Love love love the food. Sad that a chipotle opened right next door. Who wants fast food when you can have yummy authentic food. You just can't compare fast food to the real stuff. It's a little more expensive than the fast food but 1000 times better tasting! The magaritas are fantastic. The atmosphere is nice. The staff is friendly. Highly recommended.

I go to this place often - the food is amazing and fresh! but to varying degrees i have problems with service or prices. Once upon a time i ordered a big margarita and this massive thing that cost me 50 bucks came out.. not what i asked for and there was no pricing on the menu and thus i was shocked when i got the bill. The staff was non-apologetic And this time i was charged for a 25 misc beverage fee on top of the 30 buck margaritas, and who knows what that is. Service is at times slow, and as many as 4 different people may serve you through through the meal. just CHECK YOUR BILL before you leave.

First a bit of a disclaimer: I am from Oklahoma. That being said, I do not expect every Mexican place to slather cheese over everything, and to avoid vegetables that don't grow in the region. But it would be nice. I went there for lunch and ordered the Vegetarian Fajitas. I've been ordering Fajitas since I left the kids menu, and the vegetarian version since I stopped eating meat. Also Quesadillas, but these were made with low-fat (!) Muenster instead of Cheddar and Monterey Jack. For a little-cheesy thing, that is a substantial lack. The fajitas sizzled. That and the salsa is why this is as high as a 2-star review. The Fajitas had a lot of vegetables that I barely recognized. Carrots, Broccoli and Cauliflower do not exist as far south as Oklahoma, and have no business in so-called "Mexican" food. I want onions and peppers. The spicier the better. Jalapeos are a good way to go. While spicy peppers are flavor additives, broccoli and cauliflower actively destroy spice. I love both crisp and fresh, but neither one should be near fajitas. I don't plan to go back.

The place looks like a hole in the wall joint from outside but is actually decent and quite spacious inside. The food is a blend of Indian and Mexican flavors, which is an interesting twist that I have not seen elsewhere. The service was OK but seemed a bit hurried. I went with a few of my friends mainly because they had a wide variety of vegetarian options (probably due to the Indian twist) and was not disappointed at the selection. The food was decent but not necessarily exquisite. However, the one big negative is the price. This place is far more expensive than I had imagined or even compared to other similar restaurants. All dishes were at least 20% to 30% more than their peers and I don't think the food or the service justifies the increase in price. This is a decent place if you want to try a slightly different flavor of Mexican food but only if you don't mind paying more than what you are going to get.

25 flavors of margaritas with your choice between 6 or 7 different tequilas. I'm sold. Yes, the restaurant is a little run down, it's no frills. We went late on a Sunday night after a show. You can get a massive margarita here and that's all I care about! We also got nachos grande and they were good too.

Great tasting food, extensive menu and the place never gets too crowded. The food is also fairly reasonably priced.

Great mexican food for good price. The rib-eye steak fajita with mushrooms is superb (one of the chef's special)- is a lot of food, if you don't eat too much you can easily share it. As an appetizer the nacho grande is a good choice. They also have great frozen margaritas.

for mexican food not made .5 miles from the border - this place is really good (i've known mexican restaurants that put green beans in their tacos. what?) double plus - no lard/animal fat/sneaky bits of bacon in your beans....rice... or other unsuspecting food (other than the meat dishes, of course.) aaaand - really huge and super huge margaritas. in so many flavors. i've only tried about 13 different ones so far - but.... believe me... i'll get there..... :)

Mi Nidito is the tex-mex experiment by a pleasant roly poly Indian couple, Prakash and Bina Hundalani. Interestingly enough, they mostly succeed. They serve decent house margaritas in regular and "Oh my God I can't believe I drank the whole thing" sizes. My friends tried the fajitas and the chimichanga while I kept it simple with some beef soft taquitos. The plates were huge, the food is good buty not great and the drinks went down too easily. The room is small and the table spacing made me feel like I was practically rubbing elbows with my neighbor. But otherwise we had a good time.

Me gusta Mi Nidito. That's the extent of my Spanish and unoriginality. The tables were smooshed but the service was great for a group of nine gals who toasted the night away with pitchers of margaritas and bowls of salsa and chips. They even helped us take pictures and let us run around making fools of ourselves with the camera. The food wasn't the greatest. The margaritas were good.

I used to work nearby and go here alot, so here's my take on the place. Its run by an Indian, who also runs a faux-Italian, faux-chinese and this faux-mexican place. The food is boilerplate and not that interesting, with the exception of the bar menu at lunch, where you can get a mediocre burrito or chimichanga with a frozen margarita for $8. And the margs are deadly. Going here after work was only always for the margs and chips, that's the only real reason to go here. Don't come expecting good food.

This place must have improved enormously since the neg reviews below. Four of us had dinner there with nary a complaint. Drinks were generous and freshly well made, the menu was extensive with offerings that differed from the norm, and the service was both genial and professional. Why would I not give this place the max stars? If you go, ask to be served by Mara... could not ask for a more efficient and friendly server.

Mi Nidito serves the best Mexican dishes of lobster and Alaskan king crab. In fact, all the seafood dishes rock. I usually get a double decker seafood quesadilla to start, either a king crab chimichanga or enchilada as my entree, and a sopapilla for dessert. The prices are quite expensive for a hole-in-the-wall place with hit-or-miss service, but the tasty flavors and huge portions justify the costs. The margaritas are pretty good, too.
